The Essence of the Heart: A long yoga weekend with Elisa Malinverni at the Sutra House
“So, I gave myself permission to be the stiff guy in the back row, the guy who was trying hard but was kind of embarrassing to watch. I just didn’t care anymore, and it felt so good to me.”
Max Strom, A Life Worth Breathing
In our lives we often end up looking to others for direction. We tend to seek harmony in all of our relationships, so we try to fit in and live up to the expectations of others. At the same time, we long to be ourselves, to be authentic. We wish to be loved and accepted for exactly who we are. Discovering and expressing who we are deep inside is a source of strength, leading us back to more authenicity and self-love.
Over the course of this weekend together, we will journey inwards, towards our true heart's essence, sometimes individually and silently, sometimes together with the support of the group. With meditation, pranayama, mantra, dynamic asana and yin yoga we will make the time and space to find out what we truly want and who we are. The tools of yoga support us in embracing ourselves for who we are and in showing the world our heart's essence.
To participate in this retreat, basic yoga experience is recommended.
The classes will be taught in German and/or English, depending on the requirements of the group.
This Yoga Retreat with Elisa Malinverni will be offered from Thursday afternoon August 12, through
Sunday noon, August 15, 2021 at Sutra House in Riehen near Basel in Switzerland.
Even as a child, Elisa Malinverni felt that she was able to express her heart's essence through the body and movement. After decades on the dance floor and after her university graduation, she moved to New York. First she only took yoga classes to recover from her rigorous dance routine. But she realized quickly that she was more at ease in this new world, which encouraged self-reflection and compassion. In 2009 she completed her first teacher training with OM Yoga New York.
After she moved back to Switzerland, she settled down in Zurich, where she taught for AIRYOGA and continued her yoga education. After a year of teaching in Taiwan, she returned to Berne, her hometown, where she has been living and teaching ever since.
Elisa's influences come from her mentor of many years, Stephen Thomas, and from her yin yoga teachers Sarah Powers, Josh Summers and Mirjam Wagner, and also from her soulsister Manuela Peverelli. Her teaching is sophisticated and smart, but always a chance to pause and connect with oneself.
In 2009 Elisa founded WOMB :: Way of the Mother Berne. Here she specializes in assisting women as they face the transformation of pregnancy and early motherhodd. Her focus is also on yin yoga and personal growth, with the ides of becoming a good mother/father to oneself.
The Sutra House
The Sutra House in Riehen above Basel has been designed by the Basel architect Nicolas Hünerwadel in close collaboration with AIRYOGA teacher Stephen Thomas and opened last year. A sanctuary for contemplation and connection, the space consists of an old, converted part and a modern new building elegantly connected to it. Eight individually designed rooms and one suite of 50m2 offer space for up to 20 guests.
The spacious yoga room on the ground floor, the sky-lit meditation room under the high roof with large open views to the east and west for sunrise and sunset as well as the gathering/salon room with fireplace form the core zones of the house. You can also relax in the quiet garden, on the terrace or in the cosy library or enjoy the heated outdoor pool, the sauna, steam bath or a massage. For a walk in the green, the forest is just a few minutes away.
The Sutra House is a heart- and soulful piece of architecture. With its creative play of light and shadow and a careful eye for details, this place will make your stay a lasting experience.
